The weaving of design and coumunity

Nowadays people are more aware of what happening in the word . this way of thinking was increased by the media in the first place . so now people give more importance for companies and brands that concern about the world issues . also celebrities tend to show concern about world problems such as Angelina Jolie and brad bitt who are involved in many charity business , to increase their popularity or any other reason .
for branding it also binfitual if they show some concern about world issues , which could increase their sales a lot . as the example I mention before , Al baik campaign it was good for the community and for the company it self . this campaign was all about the graphics it used , that show the importance of graphic design to motivate people to do something or to be award of something . some graphic designers do community services project but they get paid for it , as a part of their job but some are volunteered by their self to involve and help the community by their talent . 

 here in saudi arabia there is a foundation called Benefit Arabia , it support good causes in the world , last year they had an exhibition 

"Art Auction for Humanity"in jeddah for graphic designers and photographers  and all the funds went to charity work.




Rreality branding : addressing real concerns and real needs

Reality branding should be honest , reflect the real product , with out exaggeration its real value , it should convince the consumer that it is the good product for him honestly with out lying even if it was silly product they should say that and their ads and their consumer will appreciate this honesty and buy it  . 


One of the most annoying ads on the TV are the Shampoo ads , its obvious that they are lying , all the shampoo companies bring models with a fixed hair and claim that it become like that after using of this shampoo , actually I believe the theory that all shampoos are the same in content with a different package .




But in the other hand Dove made ad campaign of real beauty , instead of using models with a fake hair and skin to lie on people , they use real women in their ads ,  they come with the new definition of beauty. Beauty is not about glamour or fame. It’s about every woman and the beauty that it in each of us.
and that was a very cliver idea to attract women to this brand by this soft touch .

I ♥ NY more than ever

The presentation is all about the interview of Steven Hiller with Milton Glaser about using his famous logo “I ♥ New York” . Milton Glaser Said :“I did the bloody thing in 1975 and I thought it would last a couple of months as a promotion and disappear.” but unacceptably it become a free of charge trademark , used in everywhere not only in New York city , but in the whole world . the secret of this huge success of this logo is because it was the first logo that used symbols in it , it was very simple but creative in that time . and the evdince of this success is that it still used in New York it self , it became part of its identity , and it spread for the whole world . and these pictures are some examples of “I ♥ New York”  in different uses and different languages .





these couple logos was lunched in different times by diffrient people but this specific one was modified version to commemorate the attacks of 911 , reading "I Love NY More Than Ever", with a little black spot on the heart symbolizing the World Trade Center site. The black spot approximates the site's location on ManhattanIsland.

Think globally , upload locally !

In the last two decades the world wide web has become the most powerful information tool since the printing press , it become a way of living , able the indviuals to communicate , share and play in global context .
It'v been more than 15 years since it was invented by  Tim Berners-Lee.
actually it's been a huge part of my life , If i'm looking for some information I immeditaly search it in google , and if I'm looking for a vedio , immediately I search it in youtube .
It also become the most effective way of communicating with my friends through facebook and tiwtter .

The world wide web could have positve and negative sides , some people use it for a politcal reasons , most of the latest Arab revaloution was motivated by Facebook , I'm not saying that is the negative side of it , but It could motivate such a huge events .
But as I'v noticed the most influcual web sites are from western country , We have here in Saudi Arabia some webs but it not that effecial like other global ones , also in the design wise most of the arabic websites are look the same , as one person design them all .
This point should be conisderd by local designers , they have to take care of web design here , speaically if i'm looking for specifc information for local product or anything local , I wont find that much of information availble , last week I had a project to search about al Maraie company and I didnt find much becuse of their website , it wasn't layout easily , and it doesnt contain enough information .

Timing is everything !

timing is everything

Everything is Timing - In Life, In Business, In Health, In Relationships and even in design , if you publish a design campaign in the wrong time it won't success , 
In article hall is talking about his experience on Sphare Magazine . because it wasn't published in the right time it caused a lot of problems . 

famous brands always consider about time before producing any new product ,  they study the perfect time to publish it , for example they have special edition for certain holiday season , or they make a campaign out of a current issue that consider the whole world .

A very clever strategy of marketing to a product, its known that people are motivated by there feelings , if you see a company that support any cause or issue in a society , automatically you will support it by buying its products . 


BMW , Which is a famous brand selling cars , made a campaign to aware people not to drink alcohol and then drive . this was a nice touch from the company which also increased the sells of it . 



Here in Saudi Arabia we have a very strong example of social responsibility advertising , Al Baik Which is a fast food company , made a campaign to aware people of the issue of littering on the streets , it was very successful one , and people loved al baik more because it care about society , even though it still un healthy fast food . 



on the other hand not all the companies are doing a social responsible ads to sell products only , Abdul latif Jameel which is originally is a Installment sale company . but it was very popular of its social responsible activates and many different fields , it always support young people to do their own business . and this is a video that produced by them , to encourage young saudi people to work in the different fields .

I always say that surroundings are the important thing that effect our mood , if you are in a dull room with no enough light , of coure you will fee a bit depressed , but if you were in a room which is full of shiny colors and have enough light , your going to be in a good mood . 
I agree with the girls in the presentation , colors, sound, smell and light can play big rold in changing our mood and healing our soul . The people who are in charge of Spa's took this into considration , if any one enter a spa, he will Immediately feel relaxing and his mood will change into positive . because of the soft lighting system and the beautiful smells around , 
For us a graphic designers we should use this theory in advantege to effect people . Fast food companies applied this into their identities , and it sucsees , Macadonalds , burger King and even Al Baik are using red and yellow which are vabrite colors that make the costumers more Appetizing to food . 




Expelling School Violence ,Visual communications as a Catalyst for Change

This article was written according to the escalation of violence in the United States , with all the new options of information children and teenagers are more opened to the world , and the media had played a powerful role as a source of information for those kids , it consider a way of covey messages to those kids , and with out their parents watching , it became more easier to be effected of those hidden messages .

I'v seen my little cousins acting like the Wrestling they were watching it , with out any control of there parents , they became more aggressive toward their family and friends .

The media has a big influence in kids and adults in the same hand , no matter the language of the country it came from , it just the matter of the picture its showing it . But also media could be a strong solution to aware people of violence and other social problems ,as the Terrorism issue, which was increasing after 911 , many videos were published to aware people of the effects of supporting there Terrors groups.  A campaign was held last year called (I'm a Muslim , I'm against it) 

Even though it a short videos it hold very strong meanings , and it shows the effects of there terrorism and the dis advantages of helping them .

12 steps for Graphic Designers



In his article Milton Glaser mentioned some immoral choices that could face designers anytime in their life career .But it differs from one to another, some of them as I see it in my own perspective won't be so much harmful to others, so I may do it if I have to but If I was asked to run a campaign for Political candidate whose policies would harm general public, I would definitely say NO , I'm sorry I can't do it and I will quit my job if I had to because it's too far from my principles. Since politicians have powerful hands controlling people's life, I refuse to manipulate minds by conveying lies through my design which I believe it will be very effective in people's decisions as what happened in the last Obama's campaign which had a powerful propaganda using posters to convey hope messages to people, and it worked! So these posters had a role in Obama's winning the election and becoming the control hand of the most powerful country which also controls many other countries.
There is some ethics I may gave up as a designer because I have to work, even if I'm not proud of doing it, but there's some I just can't do it. I believe that people have the right to have their own decisions and I won't be a part of it if it goes wrong.
